 UNISTAFF Working Group 2006
UNISTAFF is an international training programme aiming at enhancing the competence of university staff in issues of organization, curriculum development, teaching & learning and research management. At the same time it is geared towards institutional change and development, with special emphasis on improving quality and relevance in teaching and research. The programme runs since 1994 and is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Nearly 300 scholars, mainly from universities in Southeast Asia, East Africa, Central America and the Middle East, have participated in the one-semester courses. They constitute a dynamic group of alumni who are actively engaged in the development of their universities and extend their competence to other colleagues.
 S. Amini, M. Fremerey, M. Wesseler UNISTAFF is presently in a phase of decentralization. In order to extend and strengthen the basis for change in the individual countries and regions, the formation of alumni networks is facilitated which constitute their own training, research and implementation programmes. With the assistance of DAAD, such networks are established in Indonesia, East Africa, Central America and Iran. Beyond their national or regional focus, they are intended to link up with each other, thus constituting an international learning community.
The UNISTAFF programme is led by Prof. Dr. Michael Fremerey, with Dr. Siawuch Amini and Dr. Matthias Wesseler as co-directors. Other permanent staff are Marianne Schmutzler (office manager), Hans Hemann (technical manager) and Constanze Engel (scientific assistant).
